A desert in a humid land
Brazil is known for its amazing rainforests, pristine beaches and for having one of the most diverse faunas in the world. The country, however, keeps one of the largest and most populated semi-deserts of the planet. More than 15 million people live in the Northeast Sertão. The photos in this essay are from December 2012, when the region suffered its worst drought in more than 30 years.
